Adding word codes and a floor-skipping lift to dungeons
Code locks that take a word typed on an old phone-style keypad, and an express lift that drops two floors through solid rock.
A code lock can take a word now instead of digits, and the word is written on a note somewhere in the dungeon. There’s also an express lift that goes from floor 1 straight to floor 3 without stopping on floor 2.

The film’s frames in order. The keypad shows ABC to WXYZ under its digits and fills in the word a letter at a time.
These are the next two pieces from the list of what the dungeon kit was missing.
How do you type a word on a number pad?
I kept the same keypad screen and its 12 keys and put letters under the digits like an old phone, 2 for ABC up to 9 for WXYZ. TALLOW is 825569. You can press the digits, or type the letters on a keyboard and each one presses its digit and shows up as a letter. Keeping the same 12 keys means a controller still works, and digit codes behave exactly as before. While the pad is open it grabs letter keys first, so pressing L doesn’t open some other screen by accident.
A word code is 3 to 8 letters. The sheet can write it in any case and the game stores it in capitals. On a word lock the pad asks “Access word. Key each letter on its digit.”
How does the game tell you the word?
The word is on a note, in capitals, in a dry line that never says “the code is”. The film’s one is “A drum’s label, most of it torn away. What is left says TALLOW.” The reach checkers only count a word in capitals as telling a code, so the same word in lower case in some other note doesn’t count. If the only note with the word is behind the door it opens, the dungeon fails its checks.
The generator turns half of its code doors into word doors. It picks from 26 meat plant words like OFFAL, TALLOW, RENDER, GRISTLE, SUET and MARROW, and never uses the same word twice in one dungeon.
How does the express lift skip a floor?
The lift already moved the party between two stops. The express lift is that same lift with a longer drop, and its sealed shaft goes through floor 2’s solid rock. I went with that over a three-stop lift with floor 2’s door kept shut, because there was nothing new to build or save, and floor 2 obviously isn’t a stop when its map is rock there.
On the sheet it’s a lift on each of the two floors with a field express naming the other stop’s floor. The importer refuses one whose shaft would cut through open squares on floor 2, one that only goes to the next floor, and one missing its far stop. A new check makes sure floor 3 can be reached from floor 1 without going through floor 2.
The generator adds one now and then to dungeons of three or more floors. It never lets the lift skip a locked door: the top stop goes past floor 1’s lock and the bottom stop goes in front of floor 3’s locks. Over 20 test dungeons it placed 4 express lifts.
The phone designer page doesn’t offer express lifts or word codes yet, and the rates are placeholders until I’ve played them.
