Proving training works at a generated juice vat
Spending XP on a rank works at every generated juice vat and is refused in the next room, and I needed no new code.
Training already works at the juice vats the dungeon generator now stands, so I only had to prove it, with a test and a film. At a vat the party can spend XP on a rank, and in another room of the same floor it can’t. The vats come from the machines in generated dungeons work from earlier today.
On 11 October I said “I love the juice vat as it is, that will be the station where do is spent moving forward as well”. When I was asked what is spent there I said that how you train using your XP has some other idea behind it, and “this should be the prop”. So the vat is where training happens, and the generator’s vats are the dungeon’s training spots.
Why didn’t it need any code?
A machine row with "use": "juice_injector" gets a juice injector fitted when the dungeon is built, and the injector hangs a safe house around the vat. The house is a box 7 x 4 x 7 m, 2.5 m in front of the vat. The generator’s juice vat rows carry that same use, and the rule that XP is only spent where a safe house holds the party applies to the vat without anything new.
The test goes through every juice vat in the themed fixtures, 5 of them, and has 83 checks. For each vat it checks that the house is on the injector’s side with open floor in its middle, and that the drum stops the party walking at it from inside the house. There a rank of Muscle is bought through the same call the character sheet uses, for its price, and the injector screen opens. In the room farthest from the vat, the XP refusal applies and the same purchase fails with nothing changed.
What else does a safe house do in a dungeon?
I checked four things and wrote each answer into the levels notes.
- Walking into the house is an autosave. That’s wanted, since the vat is a checkpoint. It’s already held back while anything is hunting the party.
- Resting doesn’t need a house, so the vat changes nothing.
- The party bar hint and the stats pane follow the safe house, so they light at the vat as they are.
- A trainer refuses while the party is hunted, because a person teaches. The vat is a prop, so I left it alone. Healing and raising are what a hunted party most wants there, and juice pays for it.
